The Final Curtain 

Today is the last day of recording the shows. For this show I was the sound mixer and felt confident with sound by this time because I was use to understand the set up. The only problems I faced that was getting a battery that worked with the mic and wouldn't keep cutting out also the mic stopped in rehearsal a couple of times because of this. After the first rehearsal I asked the actor to turn of his mic before rehearsing again after I checked the sound levels on play back and made sure they matched up with the VT's. When it came to finally recording this show it was an easy set up by just making sure the mic was turned on and it wasn't that much on show on camera and due to rehearsal before I knew when to cut the mic for the VT's and count down to the camera operators when the VT was coming to an end. This helped them get ready for their next shots and to tell the actor went he can start talking again. I feel this recording went quick and turned out alright. 

Monday 18th April 2016

Its Show Time 

It was time for our final recording and it was a crazy day for our group. Before rehearsal me and Wesley checked that everyone was in their jobs and set up was going to plan. Natasha went out and brought with her all the props to help bring the set to life and even went as far as getting iced tea for the cups to actually make it more realistic when the presenters where picking them up and drinking and adding biscuits just like an afternoon tea with our audience. I went into the control room for give my logo and talk to the rest of our group to see how things were going on. 

Heres the final running order of the times we actually finished everything on the day and some of the problems we faced.  - this is a shorted version from my pre-production paperwork 

Run through - Non-tech - Went well, script is fine with presenters and changes have been made.

Next run through - Lights and sound checked and tested for whole show set up

Monday 11th April 2016

Bono No Bono

This was the first week of the final rehearsals. For this group I was standing in for the camera person however on the day of recording the camera person was in so I was placed as a runner and had to make sure things where in place for the group and that they had everything they needed for their final recording. When recording I was in the vision fixer room because I done all my tasks and had to wait to be told to do something in between rehearsals by the groups director.

This was filmed on the saturday and I packed my equipment ready to film, we all meet up where the old Odeon cinema would of been and thought filming right out side it would be perfect however it was too windy so we thought the best thing for our sound to come out perfect would be to film the voice over inside somewhere and go out after to get more shoots of the old and new Odeon and the area around where both of them would have been

Monday 14th March 2016

Team Work 

Lewis and Natasha came together to put her VT research into a script for our presenter to voice over while I spoke to Wesley about what he would want in our logo and the kind of feel he would want to get across to the audience. In the rest of the lesson we had rehearsals for two of the groups, one of these groups I was the sound for and started getting use to connecting the mic to the vision mixer and getting the sound level right where it wasn't too loud or quiet when on play back. The other group I was standing in for camera because the person was not in that day. I was the camera that focused on the host and the opening and closing of the show, due to me not using the studio cameras that much I looked back at the sheets given out before on how to work the cameras and set it up from there.

Rehearsal, Rehearsal, Rehearsal 

The next few weeks were just about getting everything together for the final recording, understand what we want our set to look like and start planning our VT's. Due to Natasha's granddad working the director Wesley wanted to give up the pier VT and come up with a different idea for a VT. Natasha learned more about cinema and the Beatles performing at a cinema that is no longer in Southend so over the next couple of days is going to research more into it.

Assistant Director

• First topic being spoken about will be Adventure Island and photos will appear on screen for the audience to see a time line of how much it has changed over the years

• Another Topic in studio about cinema and other media locations in Southend itself 
• VT an interview with someone who working in a media industry and the history with the location area 
• Studio again and presenters will talk about famous stars from the location area

Health And Safety 

Things to look out for and how to fox them or stop them from happening 

Scenario 

• Fire alarm 
• Food and drink of crew 
• New people on set 
• Equipment not up to standard 

Avoid 

• Fire alarms and safety procedures should always be in place before anyone goes on set 
• Only Food or drink allowed on a closed set is for props of the show itself 
• People who are not use to the set need to be communicated with and aware of the rules in the studio
• Equipment that is damaged needs to be removed and turns off as soon as it known to be damaged 

 Lighting

• Brightness by looking at lights or the lights facing you if cast member 

Avoid 

• Safety checks should be done before setting on a set 
• People need to know where the lights are before shooting

New Year, New Shows 

This was our first lesson of the new year and we had to create a show for our final production. So as normal we would be put into our groups to create a show. We had our group and came up with the idea of creating a show about the history of Southend On Sea however it wasn't just Southend itself but more the history of the media industry in Southend, this made it easier to focus the show on one thing rather than look at hundreds of different things and a show that would become hours long.

Show Business 

In this lesson I was ill so had to find out what happened and was told that we had to record our show due to me being ill i knew our group had to find someone else to be in cast but I was also told some other job roles had changed which made it hard for my group to rehearse because of the changes at short notice

Learn More, Do More 

At the start of our lesson we learned about Dan Harmon's Story Circle, This was going to help us learn more about how to structure a script and tell a story for a show within a smaller time frame.

After learning about this we went back into our groups to work more on our main ideas we fixed more people into our group so we had to add more job roles

I Didn't Say That!

In the lesson we had the task of writing up questions to ask people and then take their words out of context this was teaching us of what not to do in the press world. This also showed us how easy it was to make people seem they said something they haven't by simply changing the questions with their original answers

Monday 2nd November 2015

This is not going to plan! 

Today was the day we record our shows and our group was first up. Due to set up and misunderstood directions given by the main person of the group we did not record that day and let the other groups go ahead. The other groups rehearsed and recording pretty quickly and worked well with each other and understanding what they wanted to get our as the final result

Try, Try, Try Again 

Today we rehearsed our groups show which was a quiz show, this was a crazy day because we had trouble getting up some equipment didn't work which meant we had to try and move forward with the things that were working.

The second group went after to rehearse and my job role was cast. I don't like being in front of the camera but thought it would be fun as the show was simpler to The Jeremy Kyle Show. This was fun to those who were cast because we tried to act out as much as possible like some of the guest and crazy story lines that are on shows alike.

What Happened? 

This Monday I was ill so I stayed at home but was told by my classmates that the lesson was just for our groups to have rehearsals for our shows and to get them in place ready for the recording of the shows the following Monday.

What Job Do You Have? 

In this lesson we were told to get into groups but be given a job that would normally be someones job in a real studio. We were given job cards to help us understand what our job roles would be and the key things we would have to do and complete in that role. For this show I was given the job role as sound mix. This was the first time I had ever gone near the microphones and the sound setup itself. I had to ask for help because after setting up the cast with their mic's I didn't know how to connect them so we could record the sound with the final recording.

Our Second Lesson

Our second lesson was a little less stressful because most of us understood how to use some of the equipment. Paul went into more detail about how to use the cameras in the studio because they are different to the normal camera some of us would have used before. 

TASK

Our task for this lesson was simpler to last week with being given the task to create another show however this time we got to decide what the show would be about and the audience we would want to create the show for. We came up with creating a fun quiz show with different groups that were all questioned based. It would be a standard quiz show were we had a host and two teams to go against each other for a grant prize 'there was no prize'. It was a funny show to create because it made us all work together in a group and star to understand how each other worked. I was the producer and created things like a logo and some questions for the host to ask.

First Day 

This was our first full day on university which meant it was the first lesson of production together. For the first hour or so we were intruded to our tutor Paul and was told what we would learn and complete for our first year in production.

Our first task

After being told what our year would consume of we were given a task for creating a list or kind of hand book of what could go wrong on Live Television. 

What could go wrong? 

• Camera stops 
• Weather 'if filmed outside' 
• Public might get in the way or do something you are not asked to do
• Lighting might be broken or the light bulbs might break while shooting 
• Wardrobe / Costume malfunctions 
• Forgotten words by host / presenter 

Here are just some of the things we came up with that

Task Two

After creating the list and understanding what goes into creating a live show and what are the hazards we have to watch out for while filming we were put into different groups and told to create a programme based on politics for the elder audience. After talking about the different ideas we could create for this show we had to rehearse and shoot on that day, we faced problems due to it being our first time we the equipment and some of it not working as it should do we finally created a show that we believed the target audience would watch and helped to start building our skills in the studio.
